Investigators uncovered a plot to attack five Colombian security forces air bases with remote control helicopters in the computer of deceased former FARC leader “Alfonso Cano,” local media reported.
Investigators for the Prosecutor Generals’ office decrypted files on a computer belonging to Guillermo Leon Saenz Vargas, alias Alfonso Cano, and revealed the alleged plot to radio network FM.
“The FARC secretariat in 2011 has been initiating a process of terrorist plots against some military bases belonging to the Air Force, Army and Police. To this end the FARC were planning to turn several scale model aircraft into helicopters,” the prosecution’s document revealed.
According to the report, the helicopters were “tested in flight with two pounds of rice” to simulate the weight of the C4 explosives to be used. The guerrillas planned to detonate the explosives using a remote control activated by cell phone.
Cano was killed in a bombing raid carried out by the Colombian military in November, 2011.
