Sixty-four per cent of agricultural and livestock workers expect their situation to be regular or good in 2012, according to a farming industry survey.
Furthermore 80% of the 2,500 survey participants felt their production was “good” or “acceptable” in 2011 and 83% of them expect the same for 2012. This came despite uncertainty about the weather, the costs of supplies and final sales prices.
The survey, carried out by the Society of Agriculturalists (SAC), Colombia’s National Association of Entrepreneurs, (ANDI) , the Fund for Financing in the Agricultural Sector (Finagro), and Banco Agragria, took place in the final three months of 2011.
The unpredictable weather and winter rains is a negative factor for 52% of those surveyed and the state of transport infrastructure is widely considered prohibitive to commercial performance.
Only 22% of principle roads, 16% of secondary roads and 10% of tertiary roads are thought to be in good condition according to those questioned in the survey.
