FARC co-founder William Alberto Chitiva was captured in Venezuela Wednesday, El Espectador reported Thursday.
Chitiva alias “Marquetaliano” or “Fernando Robles” was captured near Caracas in an area known as Blandin, in a joint operation between Interpol and Colombian and Venezuelan security agents.
Interpol had issued as arrest warrant for the guerrilla for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of three U.S. citizens.
Chitiva also has also been accused of taking part in the capture of the municipality of Miraflores, Guaviare in 1995, the La Uribe military base in Metal, and the police stations of Miraflores, Guaviare and Vapues, Mitu, all in 1998.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has claimed that Chitiva was a member of one of the first leftisit groups which led to the FARC before joining the FARC’s fourth front in the mid-1980s when he allegedly became very close to former leader “Tiro Fijo.”
