Six retired military officers were sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a 16-year cover-up in the murder of two unarmed guerilla peace negotiators, the Attorney General reported Friday.
The sentence was handed down from a court in northeastern Colombia, in the municipality of Turbo.
The two slain guerillas were members of the Socialist Renovation Current (CRS), a splinter group of the National Liberation Army (ELN), a leftist rebel organization.
They were killed on September 23, 1993 while negotiating the demobilization of the insurgency, who signed a peace agreement with the government in 1994.
The same court is currently prosecuting a captain, lieutenant and soldier for the aggravated homicide of the two men.
