The government decided to extend the social emergency in the south of
Colombia that was implemented after the collapse of the DRFE pyramid scheme and the shut down of suspected pyramid and money launderer DMG.
The social emergency was called after thousands of Colombians in the poor south lost all their savings in either the DRFE collapse or the DMG shutdown. Riots broke out and mayors of southern towns have called on Bogotá to declare an economic emergency. They say local economies have collapsed completely.
The social emergency is now extended to January 17. The period that people can claim money they have lost in DMG is also extended.
Authorities in the meantime are trying to find the millions of dollars of DMG money.
