Colombia will have to continue its search for a coach for its national team after a failed second round of talks with Argentine Gerardo Martino.
In an interview with radio station Caracol, the president of Colombia’s soccer federation said Martino refused to quit his job at Argetina’s Newell’s Old Boys “for emotional reasons.”
Colombia returned to Martino after sacking Leonel Alvarez earlier this month. Alvarez had led the Colombian team for no more than three games.
However, “after advancing several talks with the representatives of Martino and reaching a deal on his financial demands, which he qualified as the best in his career, ‘Tata’ prefers to stay with Newell’s for a more emotional issue,” Colfutbol director Luis Bedoya told the radio station.
Colombia has until June when it is scheduled to play its next 2014 World Cup quealification match to find a new head coach.
