The personal secretary of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe denies Yidis
Medina’s court statement that “bags full of money” were delivered to
Congress when it was about to approve Uribe’s 2006 re-election. The House of Representatives is currently investigating its alleged bribery by the Government.
“That’s what she [Yidis Medina] said in some of her statements before the Supreme Court and the Attorney General, but we have clarified that and the truth is that we don’t know what she was talking about when referring to that (…) those bags must be those of the pyramids that got lost in the south of the country,” Uribe’s personal assistant Bernardo Moreno told the House of Representative’s Accusation’s Committee.
Former congresswoman Yidis Medina was sentenced to four years house arrest after the Supreme Court found her guilty of having accepted bribes from members of the Uribe administration.
The Government has always denied bribing the congresswoman and haven’t appeared in court so far.
