Colombia’s Attorney General says the collapse of the DRFE pyramid
scheme and the closing of suspected money launderer DMG led to an
unprecedented economic crisis and needs time and State funds to be
solved.
“This is an issue with no precedents, corrupting a large part of society that it needs time and probably funds by the State itself,” Edgardo Maya Vilazón told Caracol Radio.
The Attorney General hopes to know as soon as possible what problems victims of the crisis encounter so that they can be considered when looking for a solution for the crisis.
The shutting down of DMG and the collapse of DRFE left hundreds of thousands of mostly poor Colombians without savings. The crisis has resulted in riots in several parts of the country. Some mayors call on the national government to declare an economic emergency saying local economies are collapsing.
