Miss Atlantico Daniella Alvarez was crowned Miss Colombia Monday, following a rigorous competition of beauty, wits and winning smiles that took place in the Colombian port town of Cartagena.

Miss Colombia 2011, Daniella RamirezThe gorgeous and obviously elated Miss Atlantico won out over crowd favorite Miss Valle and the stunning second runner up, Miss Magdalena, to be crowned this years queen.

Miss Atlantico, in a delightful, feathery number that reminded the crowd ever so slightly of Sesame Street’s Big Bird, won out over all the other elegant Colombian beauties, to be crowned Miss Colombia for 2011 – 2012.

The departing beauty queen, Catalina Robayo, said her farewells and expressed her pride and joy at having had the luck of being Miss Colombia for the past year. She said she has been glad to share a part of the history of Colombia, a history “that’s been written with blood, but also with music and joy.”

Miss Atlantico said of her win, “I will be the best queen for my country, because I love Colombia.”

The competition was highlighted by a live performance by reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee, who donned an impressively over-the-top, glow in the dark jacket to rock out to a medley of his own reggaeton hits for the excitable crowd.

The gorgeous contestants danced to a number of Daddy Yankee crowd pleasers, dressed in tight, blue bikinis, silken capes and winning smiles.

The top five contestants were Miss Cartagena, Miss Valle, Miss Cundinamarca, Miss Magdelena and Miss Atlantico.

Miss Atlantico will right away take on the responsibility of being Colombia’s most beautiful woman, and will soon begin preparation for the Miss Universe competition.
