An alleged FARC motorcycle bomb has injured ten persons, including the mayor, in a town in the southwest of Colombia, local authorities said Saturday.
According to the government secretary of the Cauca department where the attack took place, the attack injured mayor Carlos Alberto Banguero, three policemen and six civilians.
One of the policemen was said to be seriously injured.
Cauca Government Secretary Alberto Ospina told press that the explosive device was attached to a motorcycle that was parked in front of the town’s Justice Palace.
Police have said the attack was the work of the FARC’s 6th front, which is highly active in the region where little over a week ago the groups supreme leader Alfonso Cano was killed.
Towns and security forces in the north of the Cauca department have been under frequent attack by the FARC for years. In July, three were killed and more than 70 injured when a car bomb was detonated in the center of the town.
