The United States trade delegation, in Colombia to advance the implementation of the Colombia-U.S. free trade deal has said that intellectual property issues will have to be resolved, reported local media Wednesday.
Miriam Sapiro, deputy trade representative and head of the delegation said intellectual property and the plan of action are critical matters, which need to be addressed in Colombian legislation.
Sapiro said “In the United State, with the approval of the pact, we have also made changes in the laws of the agreement with the established obligations and now Colombia has to make adjustments to its legislation.”
The delegation, which includes chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreir, met with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos over breakfast at the presidential palace to discuss the FTA.
Republican Dreier said “The approval of the FTA is the first step, the most important thing is the correct implementation of the agreement, so that it brings notable benefits to Colombian workers,” reported newspaper El Colombiano.
