Afrocolombian music festival rocks Medellin

The fourth annual Medellin Afrocolombian music festival, Afro Festi, has been set to rock the city from November 3 through 5.

In a celebration of culture and diversity, the festival kicks things off Thursday with an Artisan and Gastronomy Fair at Paseo Carabobo between Calle 48 and 49 in downtown Medellin. The all day event lasts from 9AM to 6PM.

The grand opening will be held at the Centro de Desarrollo Cultural (Center for Cultural Development) in Moravia with two musical performances. Starting at 7PM, Grupo Canalon from Cauca will be performing, and at 8PM until 9PM Rancho Apante from Choco will be rocking the center.

On Friday, November 4, there will be various groups from Medellin, Cauca, and Choco performing at Parque de los Deseos from 6PM to 12AM.

Saturday, the event cumulates with two theater performances, one at Casa de Integracion Afrocolombiana at 3PM and another at Teatro Lido at 6:30PM, as well as a string of concerts lasting from 5PM to 12AM at Parque de Los Deseos.

The entire festival is offered free of charge and open to all ages. Information about the performing bands can be found online.
