A Manizales water plant said Thursday that rains are preventing repairs, leaving the central Colombian city without receiving water for the ninth straight day.
The Civil Defense director announced that the persistent haze in the Caldas department led to a 10-hour suspension of repair work on the plant that supplies water to the city of 360,000 residents.
There is a risk of a new collapse in the aqueduct that carries water to Manizales, the director added.
According to Caracol Radio, the workers will resume repair work later Friday if weather conditions permit.
The director said 127 tankers continue to distribute water to 120 districts of the city, and to hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and prisons.
Meanwhile, Manizales Mayor Juan Manuel Llano asked citizens for their understanding about the weather that has affected repair work.
A landslide on Thursday, October 20 destroyed the main water supply pipeline to Manizales. Authorities originally said that water would be restored by Sunday.
