According to a survey carried out between 2007 and 2011, the percentage of households living in poverty in the Colombian capital Bogota fell by 9.1%.
In 2007, the figure was 21.9% decreasing to 12.8% in 2011, according to the report by the government statistics agency, DANE. The biggest drops were registered in the Ciudad Bolivar and Santafe localities of the city where the poverty rate fell by 16.6% and 15.4% respectively.
The number of families in the city that do not have adequate housing fell from 307,334 in 2007 to 258,046 in 2011, a decrease of 16%.
Members of many households feel that the main problem in terms of quality of life are insecurity according to 75.8%. For 44.9% of households, air pollution is the biggest problem while for 39.4% bad odors are a major concern.
