International film festival comes to Cali

The third annual International Cali Film Festival will be take place from November 17-20, and this year will pay a special homage to cinema and filmmakers of African descent.

The festival is one of the most important in the country because of the quality of cinema featured at the event as well as the space given to independent filmmaking.

There will be full length films, documentaries, short films, master classes, workshops, and discussions with the aim of fueling the growth and development of the cinematic culture in Cali. The complete event program can be found here.

Special international guests include Charles Burnett from the United States, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun from Chad, Nino Kirtadze from Georgia, Claudio Pazienza from Italy, Marcelo Garcia and Rodrigo Tomasso from Argentina, and Playtime Audiovisuales from Spain.

Colombian names include Miguel Salazar, Joaquin Llorca, Colectivo Plug, Andrea Said, Enrique Franco Lizarazo, Felipe Morell, and Juan Carlos Gonzalez.

The festival will be held at the Centro Cultural de Cali, Camara de Comercio, Centro Cultural Comfandi, Lugar a Dudas, Casa Proartes, Multiplex Royal Films, Colectivos Audiovisuales de Cali, Asociacion Centro Cultural La Red, Cine Pal Barrio, and the Colectivo Audiovisual Cine al Parque.

Cali has been a pioneer of Colombian cinema, with local directors who have founded “Cinema Club of Cali” as well as a film magazine “Ojo al Cine,” earning the city the name “Caliwood” in reference to it’s cinematic aspirations.
