An attack from the leftist guerrilla group FARC left at least six soldiers dead, two injured and another seven missing in southwest Colombia, authorities said Friday.
According to newspaper El Tiempo, the Army had said that the soldiers were ambushed close to the Pacific port city of Tumaco.
In an interview with Caracol Radio, Nariño Governor Antonio Navarro Wolff said that seven soldiers are dead, four injured and nine missing.
Both radio station RCN and the website of weekly Semana reported that nine soldiers were killed, seven were injured and 11 are missing.
Army troops are patrolling the area to confirm the exact number of casualties and missing while high Army officials were sent to the region to be informed about the attack.
Governor Navarro said that there has been “high guerrilla activity in recent months” in that area.
On August 17, four policemen were killed and three were injured near Tumaco, and on August 29, another five policemen were killed.
