Road closures brought on by Colombia’s rainy season have been responsible for $210 million in losses for truck drivers.
In a statement made by the the President of the Colombian Truckers Association (ACC), Pedro Aguilar said, “This closure and damage to the roads has ruined us, thrown us to the roadside to sleep and eat, and I see no political will to solve this problem anytime soon.”
Aguilar noted that vital foods such as poultry cannot be transported to the most affected areas because of landslides on the road between the Santander and Norte de Santander departments, radio station Caracol Radio reports.
The landslides and road closures have made crucial roads unpassable, and without being able to transport their precious cargo, the ACC faces bankruptcy.
