At least people were buried and are feared dead after a landslide hit the road connecting Colombia’s second largest city Medellin to the western city of Quibdo.
According to a preliminary police report, the six were traveling to Quibdo on motorcycles when they were surprised by a landslide that covered the road near the village of Carmen de Atrato.
Rescue workers were sent to the scene to look for survivors and investigate if more people were trapped under the rocks and mud.
If confirmed dead, the number of Colombians killed by this year’s second rainy season is raised to at least 29. The Red Cross on Friday announced that 23 people had died because of floods and landslides in the past six weeks.
So far, this rainy season is far less severe than the ones in 2010 when more than 400 Colombians died and over 2 million were affected.
