Colombia’s registrar warned citizen observers Tuesday that they could be fined up to nearly $3,000 dollars for not appearing for work on October 30 to oversee election proceedings.
For the upcoming elections, 615,085 Colombian citizens between the ages of 18 and 60 were called to serve as observers of the voting procession.
National Registrar Carlos Ariel Sanchez warned that those who do not appear for work on their required day could be fined up to $2,796, or be dismissed from office in the case of government employees.
So far, Sanchez added, that the National Registry has issued 1,822 executive orders against those who have not attended, which value amounts to nearly $1 million dollars.
