Colombia created the most employment in Latin America, with 700,000 jobs in one year, President Juan Manuel Santos has announced, according to a presidential press release.
“Between all the countries of Latin America, in the last year, from August of last year until July of this year, the country that created the most employment – in absolute terms – was Colombia, even topping Brazil,” said the head of state.
President Santos made the announcement as Mauricio Cardenas took his position as the Minister of Mining and Energy.
“We created a little more then 700,000 jobs, Brazil created 600,000 and the rest of the countries are below that,” he said.
He went on to say that this is a significant achievement for the country because it meets the objectives laid out in the National Development Plan: more jobs and less poverty.
“I think that being the country with record employment generation this year shows us that we are on the right track, but it is important to maintain this momentum in an international situation that is becoming ever more difficult,” Santos concluded.
