The front runner in the mayoral race for Bogota, Enrique Peñalosa, has made no comment on the arrival of controversial Venezuelan spin-doctor J.J. Rendon to his campaign, Colombian media reported.
Green Party candidate Peñalosa declined to comment on the arrival of the Venezuelan publicist to his campaign during a tour of Usme in the south of Bogota with former President Alvaro Uribe, who is backing his bid, on Sunday.
Instead he said that that he himself has been the victim of campaign spin. “If anyone has suffered from a dirty war, and has had invented stories about his family, and all kinds of crazy things, it is me,” he said.
He went on to say “I have principles that I always maintain and we are going to work within these principles.” Former President Uribe also evaded the subject and said “It would be a waste not to allow Enrique Peñalosa to govern Bogota for another four years.”
J.J. Rendon was accused of threatening to smear a congressmen with rumors of prostitution but the charges were dropped in September 2010.
