A group of Colombian executives and climbers have embarked on a trip to Africa with the goal of reaching the top of Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain on the continent, reported RCN Radio on Thursday.
“We flew to Amsterdam first, we should be arriving in Kenya (Africa) on September 25th, and from there we will go to Tanzania to reach the base of Mount Kilimanjaru, which is the highest free-standing mountain in the world, and from there we begin the ascent. We should begin the climb on the 27th and arrived at the summit on October 4,” said Juan Pablo Ruiz, head of the expedition.
The team also includes Nelson Cardona, the first Colombian to reach the summit of Mount Everest with a prosthetic right leg. Despite low temperatures and intense climbing conditions, the expedition expects to arrive at the top, and demonstrate the importance of teamwork.
“The temperature should be around 5 degrees Fahrenheit. For Colombia, this represents the evidence that a dream can be achieved if we work for it,” said Ruiz.
To achieve this dream, the climbers have undergone physical and technical training as well as special coaching based on discipline.
