An acquitted navy admiral is suing the government for $4.18 million for being “unjustly” accused of drug trafficking.
According to the newspaper El Espectador, Admiral Gabriel Arango Bacci filed a lawsuit before the Administrative Tribunal of Cundinamerica after failing to reach a settlement with the prosecution in the former case against him.
According to Arango Bacci, the state denied him 18 months of freedom without justification.
The drug-trafficking case against him was made with “false evidence, produced to be mounted against him.”
The Supreme Court acquitted Arango Bacci of all charges in November 2009. In the conciliation process, he was offered $364,480, an amount he claimed is “far below the financial damage caused during his detention.”
