Two separate opinion polls show the Progressive Movement`s Gustavo Petro and the Green Party’s Enrique Peñalosa in a virtual tie in the race to be Bogota’s next mayor.
A poll conducted by the National Center for Statistics (CNC) shows Peñalosa edging in front with 21.0% to Petro’s 19.0%, while the poll commissioned by El Tiempo and W Radio shows Petro ahead on 17.8% with Peñalosa just behind on 16.3%. The difference between the candidates in both polls falls within the margin of error.
Former Green Party presidential candidate Antanus Mockus, currently standing with the Alianza Social Independiente (ASI), is trailing in third place with 13.0%, according to the CNC. However, the other poll shows Mockus in fourth with 10.8%, behind Cambio Radical’s Carlos Galan on 12.9%.
Both polls show independent candidate Gina Parody and the Liberal Party’s David Luna polling between 9 and 10%.
According to the CNC, their poll has a margin of error of 2.55% while the El Tiempo/W Radio, which only had a sample of 636 people, has a margin of error of 3.89%.
