Indigenous protesters from Cauca started their second march in three
weeks, this time heading to the Colombian capital. They demand the
protection of their people, better living conditions and the return and
respect of what they consider holy land.
An earlier protest march to Cali resulted in the willingness of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe to talk, but the President and the indigenous leaders were not able to reach any agreement.
The march from Cali to Bogotá won’t be done completely by foot. Buses are available to make the 300 kilometer (190 mile) journey less devastating.
The indigenous hope to arrive in the capital on November 19.
