Four cases of robberies of truckers by sex workers working on roads and highways have been reported to Colombian transit police, newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.
According to General Rodolfo Palomino, head of the National Transport and Transit Police, truckers who use the services of sex workers run the risk of being victims of robbery often involving the use of scopolamine, a drug which leaves the victims defenseless and willing to do any action suggested by the assailant.
Palomino also said that minors are being used to carry out this crime. “It could be that they are being manipulated, behind them are pimps encouraging these actions,” said the police official.
The highway sex workers, also known as “correcaminos” or “path runners” are prevalent in the departments of Valle del Cauca, Tolima, Risaralda and Antioquia, according to reporting from Caracol News.
Authorities are asking victims of this crime to come forward.
