Colombia’s Armed Forces have “Alfonso Cano,” the supreme leader of guerrilla group FARC, “on the run,” said the commander of the National Police Sunday.
National Police commander Oscar Naranjo spoke during the commemoration of the Battle of Boyaca, during which Colombia secured its independence from Spain in 1819.
Naranjo said to be convinced “that the security forces have Alfonso Cano on the run.”
“The history of Colombia is written. No matter how powerful the criminal [Cano], he will end up being captured or killed or assassinated by his own men,” the country’s highest police official said.
A little more than a month ago, Naranjo said the FARC leader “has its weeks counted” after the army raided in a camp in which the authorities claim Cano had stayed the night before. Since then, special forces have been searching for the FARC leader in the south of the Tolima department, the heartland of the guerrilla group, but so far without success.
