Colombia’s minister of trade, industry, and tourism announced a plan Thursday to boost tourism by encouraging a higher rate of investment in building more hotel accommodations.
Minister Sergio Diaz-Granados pledged that they must “improve hotel capacity in the country” in order to achieve the goal of receiving 4 million visitors by 2014. He revealed that the plan is to construct 3,000 new hotel rooms this year.
However, Cotelco Bogota President Jose Hernando Bayona commented that if they keep building new hotels in Bogota “it is inevitable that they will experience a drop in the hotel industry’s success in the short run.”
Global Hotels Corporation representative Juan Pablo Franky told W Radio that he doesn’t share the same position of Cotelco Bogota and announced that by September of this year they will have 800 new hotel rooms built for accommodation in Bogota.
