Colombian actress Sofia Vergara, star of ABC’s Modern Family, said Monday that an Oscar is currently out of reach.
“The Oscar is impossible for me,” said Vergara. “To reach that level you have to have very dramatic roles, and I do not know if that’s what I’m doing.”
Vergara had a chance to land such a role in “The Paperboy” as she was strongly considered by director Lee Daniels, but ultimately had to turn the part down as shooting would interfere with her role on Modern Family. Vergara has been replaced with Nicole Kidman. Daniels previously had success directing “Precious” in 2009.
The actress currently stars in “The Smurfs” which opens this Friday. Vergara plays an executive at a cosmetic company who is committed to opening a new product line.
Vergara joins Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria, and Katey Perry who plays the voice of Smurfette. Vergara was nominated for an Emmy for her performance on Modern Family earlier this year.
