Kenyan long distance runner Geoffrey Mutai will race in the Bogota International Half Marathon next week.
The 30-year-old Mutai is considered by many to be the fastest marathoner in the world after he ran the 2011 Boston Marathon’s 26.2 miles in 2:03:02.
Bogota has hosted the half marathon for 11 years.
In 2008, the International Association of Athletics Federations recognized the Bogota International Half Marathon as one of the foremost competitions of its type with the Gold Label Road Race award. It is currently the only race in South America to achieve this accreditation.
The half marathon will attract notable runners from around the world this year, such as Peru’s Raul Pacheco, the United States’ Mohamed Trafeh, and Zimbabwe’s Wirimai Juwawo.
Male runners will attempt to break Ethiopian Deriba Merga’s 1:02:31 record on the 13.1 mile course.
Fans interested in seeing the world’s fastest marathoner or internationally renowned runners can witness the start in Bogota’s Bolivar Square at 10:00AM on July 31.
