The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) promised to continue aid on Friday to families affected by recent FARC violence in the town of Toribio.
The press release indicated that some 475 people were affected by the July 9 attacks in Toribio, located in the southwestern department of Cauca.
The ICRC distributed toiletries, cooking accessories, mattresses, blankets and sheets, along with care packages to help 25 families. Plastic was also distributed to weatherproof homes, and medical supplies were given to the town’s hospital and other medical centers.
On Saturday, roofing supplies will be provided to 65 homes, or 320 Toribio locals. Some 500 homes were reportedly affected by the bus bomb explosion.
The ICRC will also pay funeral expenses for the four people who were killed in the attacks. They will also cover travel expenses for 11 families to visit relatives who are currently hospitalized in Toribio.
In the press release, the ICRC promised to continue monitoring the situation in the Cauca department, and to continue to provide assistance to victims of the latest attacks.
The head of ICRC in Cali said in the release that the Red Cross is “very concerned about the difficult humanitarian situation that is currently happening in the northern part of the Cauca department.” He added that “the ICRC has remained in the area and has assessed with the community the greatest humanitarian needs in order to respond effectively to these needs.”
