Between 5,000 and 6,000 indigenous protesters Monday will start their
march from Cali to Bogotá in their quest for improved living
conditions, protection from violence and respect for their autonomy and
cultures.
The native Colombians have been protesting for weeks already and failed to reach an agreement initially with government ministers and later with President Uribe himself.
To force the government to take their demands seriously they will march to the Colombian capital and repeat their demands to revise the proposed free trade pact with the US, protection from paramilitary groups, the demilitarization of holy ground and improved health care and education.
