Colombia’s minister of trade predicted that exports to the U.S. could reach $2 billion if the pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is approved, reported Caracol Radio Wednesday.
Minister of Trade Sergio Diazgranados said that once the bill is ratified, it will “enable [Colombians] to increase efficiency for Colombian exports and production.”
The minister also spoke about the amount of time it will take to sign and implement the FTA between the U.S. and Colombia.
“The approval and implementation process are as follows: the approval could take up to 90 days…and later the implementation process which could take anywhere from 10 to 12 months.”
Diazgranados is also optimistic about the “political mood” between Barack Obama and the U.S. congress, and believes that they are in favor of the trade agreement with Colombia.
