Minister of Interior and Justice German Vargas Lleras said that the Colombian government has not labeled anyone as corrupt, after the former President Alvaro Uribe lashed out at the current administration earlier on Monday.
“This government is not pointing to anyone, much less ex-President Uribe. We and some [other] entities have informed authorities of complaints about events that have taken place, but we don’t make this a political debate,” said the minister.
Earlier Monday, the former president criticized the government of President Juan Manuel Santos for dismantling Uribe’s security policy and trying to pass him off as corrupt, stating that the government was trying to discredit his administration in order to advance its own anti-corruption policies.
Minister Vargas Lleras did, meanwhile, reiterate that the government has denounced cases of corruption among certain government entities, including the national prison authority, INPEC, and the National Narcotics Office (DNE), reported Caracol Radio.
Several aides of Uribe and members of his family are implicated in various corruption scandals.
