Andrea Tovar, the representative of the Pacific Choco province, won the 2015 Miss Colombia beauty pageant on Monday.
Tovar is an Industrial Design student and lives in the capital Bogota.
The new Miss Colombia was already set to participate in the beauty pageant last year, but was left out over infighting in the electoral board of her province, the poorest and arguably the most corrupt in Colombia.
Tovar is the second Miss Colombia coming from the predominantly black Choco. The first time Choco won was in 2001, making then-winner Vanessa Mendoza the first ever black Miss Colombia.
Last year’s winner of Miss Colombia was Paulina Vega who would later become Miss Universe.
