More than half of Colombia’s national road network has been severely affected by the devastating rainy season, according to the National Roads Institute INVIAS.
The national road network consists of some 1,700 miles, of which almost 1,000 miles have been seriously damaged or affected.
Diana Maria Vargas, the head of the Prevention and Attention Office of INVIAS, noted that emergency money is in place to help repair the damage, which also includes 98 bridges and nearly 17,000 miles of tertiary roads, across 27 departments, Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.
She expects that, if time and weather permits, the road network should be fully operational again by the end of the year.
