Colombian Comptroller General Sandra Morelli said that the Saludcoop leadership’s decision to unionize will not affect investigations moving forward against the recently intervened health insurance company (EPS), local media reported Friday.
The Saludcoop leadership formed a union last Friday in the apparent hope of avoiding removal from their posts and of delaying the process of intervention and investigation into the company.
Morelli said, however, that the creation of a union has effects strictly on labor rights, and does not affect the processes being advanced in regards to apparent irregularities found in the company’s financial records.
The comptroller maintained that the control body will continue to move forward in the corresponding inquiries into the Saludcoop case.
Saludcoop, which was recently repossessed by the government, is one of a number of Colombian EPS companies being investigated for suspected involvement in the health sector scandal that is estimated to have cost the state up to $2.5 billion.
