MTV Latin America’s second Latin production, the drama series “Popland,” features Colombian actress Manuela Gonzalez as the show’s protagonist, reported culture and events site shock.com.
The series, which has recently begun recording, looks at the world of celebrities through the viewpoint of Carla, an aspiring photographer played by Gonzalez.
Carla is an 18-year-old who has grown up in a small town and moves to the big city, in search of her dreams. Upon arrival, she finds paparazzi work with Popland, a popular gossip website, and quickly learns that VIP access comes with a price.
Mexican actress Sara Cobo and actor Ricardo Abarca are also principal actors in the show, which is expected to premiere in the second half of 2011.
“We are very happy to initiate the production of our second telenovela,” said Fernando Gaston, MTV Latin America’s Senior Vice President of Content, Creativity and Music.
“After the success of ‘Niñas mal’ [the first production], we decided to offer our audience more of this genre and give them a fresh story.”
The channel’s directors assured that “Popland,” written jointly by Argentine “Niñas Mal” scriptwriter Claudia Bono and compatriot Marcelo Camaño, offers viewers new and innovative content.
“Popland” is scheduled to run for 70 episodes, each an hour in length, on the MTV network, which in the past has mainly featured popular U.S. MTV shows in Spanish for a Latin audience.
