Colombia’s Ministry of Defence reported on Thursday that public security is improving as homicide rates drop by 5%.
Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas announced that homicide has experienced a “5% decrease between January and July 2015 compared with the same period in 2014” and that “37% of the countries municipalities have not registered homicide cases.”
Between January and July 2015 7,313 violent deaths have been reported compared with 7,722 reported in the first seven months of 2014.
Last year, the national homicide rate was 26.5 for every 100,000 inhabitants.

In 2015 so far, Defense Ministry records show that each month the number of homicides has been lower than in 2014.

Villegas said that if the trend continues, it is “highly possible” that the total amount of deaths in 2015 will be lower than 13,343, the figure recorded for 2014.
