The new comptroller of Bogota was voted in by the Council of Bogota to hold the position until February 15, 2012, local media reported Wednesday.
Mario Solano Calderon said he would work say and night for the city and restore trust in institutions and people, according to Caracol Radio.
He is replacing Miguel Angel Moralesrussi. Moralesrussi was removed from his post and barred from holding public office for 20 years on February 25 for fraudulently awarding public works contracts. Solano Calderon is a native of Neiva, the capital of the department of Huila, was president of Canajal, a state social security company in 2004, and was party secretary of the Partido de la U in 2009.
Newspaper El Espectador reported that Solano Calderon said that the correct use of public funds and elimination of corruption were the aims of his time in office.
“My goal is to promote the proper use of public resources, that they be invested properly. That contractors abide by budgets and deadlines… to contribute to the progress of the city with zero corruption.”
