Colombia’s President of Congress Hernán Andrade says he will not
resign, despite having received 250 million pesos (US$ 121 thousand)
from the man involved in one of Colombia’s biggest ever embezzlement
scandals.
Andrade told the press he hadn’t made any disciplinary, ethical or moral mistake for receiving the personal loan just days before his 2006 election into the Senate.
“Today I tell the Colombians that there is not a remote possibility that I will leave the presidency of Congress, because I did nothing wrong disciplinarily, morally or ethically,” the Congress president said.
Andrade said he came to the conclusion he did nothing wrong ffter consulting his lawyers and hopes the Attorney General, the Supreme Court and the Prosecution will open investigations to prove his innocence.
The President of Congress came under fire after weekly Semana revealed he had received money from Armando Cabrera, convicted in 2007 for the embezzling of money from Colombia’s social security fund.
