The Davila family has agreed to return, in under one month, approximately $1.2 million (COP 2.2 billion) in Agro Ingreso Security (AIS) subsidies they received illegally, Colombian media reported Thursday.
The family was allegedly involved in the AIS scandal, in which billions of dollars of public funds coming from the Ministry of Agriculture, intended for poor rural farmers, were instead allocated to some of the country’s wealthiest families.
In consideration of this turn of events, the Prosecutor General’s Office requested that the proceedings against the family be moved to June 9 at 7AM, rather than April 29 as planned, in accordance with a request made by the accused.
The four members of the Davila family argued that in light of the recent decision, it is necessary to postpone the audience scheduled for this Friday in which they would have to answer to charges of appropriating funds and providing false documentation that have been placed against them.
The case against former Miss Colombia Valerie Dominguez, girlfriend of Davila family member Juan Manuel Davila, progressed Wednesday, when the ex-beauty queen made her first testimony in front of Prosecutor General Viviane Morales.
