Córdoba is pessimistic about further possible releases or a humanitarian deal with this current government because of the death of FARC commander Raúl Reyes, she said in an interview with Colombian Radio Caracol.
According to the senator the process of releasing hostages is completely paralyzed. She sees her pessimism affirmed by the fact there hasn’t been any new proof of life of any of the captured hostages.
Pérez, who was released from captivity last month, met with French president Nicolas Sarkozy on tuesday and was “excited” about the French president’s plans about a humanitarian agreement with the FARC, resulting in the release of French-Colombian citizen Ingrid Betancourt and three other civilians.
Venezuelan Hugo Chávez plays a major role in the French plan to release the hostages, as well as president Uribe of Colombia and Sarkozy of France, Pérez said.
The former senator said he attached great importance to the FARC statement, issued after the death of commander Reyes, that said Reyes’ death did not prevent a solution for an exchange of hostages for imprisoned guerrillas.
President Sarkozy himself didn’t want to comment on the content of his plan for a humanitarian deal with the FARC.
