Colombia’s most important fashion event, “Circulo de la Moda” opened with displays of vibrant, seductive and exotic modern fashion.

The 10th year of the “Fashion Circle” festival was opened in Bogota on Wednesday April 13, by invited guest, Spanish designer Adolfo Dominguez. His 2011 autumn-winter women’s collection featured bright colours, vibrant prints and accessories, inspired by a series of paintings of ants by his daughter.

“Ants interest me because they are a very successful species, like humans, but are positive for the environment, while we as humans are less positive,” he told news agency ABC.

Dominguez broke away from the traditional warm autumn colour palette and used blues, reds, yellows and beiges in his collection of 70’s inspired pants, dresses and jackets.

Colombian designer Monica Holguin for Pepa Pombo then took to the catwalk with her collection of “cool exotic” pieces inspired by the female traveller who is always moving, witnessing new and exciting things.

Holguin used a constant blue hue throughout the collection, contrasted against vibrant splashes of purple, bougainvillea, grey, sand and red. Her silhouettes featured straight lined skirts, dresses and coats alongside colorful tops and jackets.

The designer opted for versatile accessories suitable for women on-the-go.

The final parade of the night was fellow Colombian Lina Cantillo, who’s male collection was inspired by the 17th century seductor Don Juan.

She used smooth, lustrous and soft textures along with simple blacks, whites and greys, with hints of brown and mustard to reinforce masculine sensuality.

Her so called “Don Juan cruise collection” featured turtle neck sweaters, cropped striped bermuda pants in materials such as nylon, silk, cotton lycra satin, cashmere socks and handmade fabrics.

The event will run until the Friday in the Colombian capital.
