A “heavyweight” American delegation will visit Colombia next Monday to discuss the future of the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement.
The high level delegation is made up of six members of Congress from the Democratic and Republican parties.
The congressmen will meet with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Colombia’s Ambassador to the U.S., Gabriel Silva, as well as representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, trade associations and unions, reported El Tiempo.
Dave Camp, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, the committee that will initiate the passage of the FTA once it is passed by Barack Obama, will lead the visit.
The long awaited free trade agreement is set to be put before Congress April 22, 2011.
“The FTA for Colombia means more employment, more commerce, more investment and more prosperity … North American employment and commerce will also come away strengthened,” Santos said last week after his meeting with Barack Obama.
