The Constitutional Court upheld three emergency decrees on Tuesday that were issued during last year’s flooding, one of which will allow the government nearly $220 million in aid to address victims from the disaster, Semana reports.
The three decrees, social, economic and ecological, were issued during the first declaration of a state of emergency.
However, the Court dismissed a request from the government that would have restructured Autonomous Regional Corporations (CARs) and given the Ministry of the Environment, Housing and Development the resources to reforest areas affected by the flooding.
The granting of nearly $220 million in funds for the government will come as welcome news after the Constitutional Court struck down late last month all decrees issued after January 7, 2011, in relation to the floods, thus damaging assistance efforts for last year’s crisis and the relief framework for any potential disasters this year.
