Real Madrid shuns Shakira

Colombia news - Shakira, Pique

Spanish soccer team Real Madrid will no longer entertain its fans before kick off with Shakira’s songs, as revealed by Spanish Sports daily Marca on Wednesday.

There is no explanation for the sudden change in arrangements. A tweaking of the pre-match schedule is one possibility, but suspicions are being raised over whether the decision was made due to the star’s recently exposed romantic attachment to bitter arch-rival Barcelona’s Gerard Pique.

The star indicated that she was going out with Pique when she posted an image of them together on her twitter page, under the caption: ‘I present to you my sunshine… Shak.’ Only 20 minutes after publication, Shakira had over 400 messages from fans congratulating her on her new found love. They have since appeared together in tabloid photographs around the world.

The two clubs are the most successful and influential in Spain and are divided by political identity; with Real Madrid being readily associated with Spanish nationalism and Barcelona with Catalan nationalism.
