Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe called Representative Alfredo Bocanegra to remonstrate with his investigator over comments he made to the press, according to several media.
Bocanegra said he received a phone call from Uribe Wednesday evening in which he was chastised for some comments he made to a Tolima newspaper.
Namely, Uribe was apparently upset that Bocanegra had said, “I will not be the Heyne Mogollon of Uribe,” referring to the former congressman who had asked to absolve then-President Ernesto Samper who he was supposed to be investigating.
According to Bocanegra, Uribe told him, “I am an honorable man,” to which the representative replied that he hadn’t touched his honor.
The conservative congressman also told Uribe that in the process of investigating the illegal wiretaps of the DAS, the former president would have guarantees.
The conservative congressman told Caracol Radio that the phone call ended on friendly terms and that it would not affect his job as an investigator into the criminal proceedings involving Uribe.
The investigation into Uribe’s role in the wiretapping scandal began in October 2010. Many members of his staff, including members of Colombia’s intelligence agency DAS which reported directly to him, have been incriminated in the scandal.
