Former Colombian President Ernesto Samper will meet with several politicians
and academics to form a group seeking to present solutions to social problems in Colombia.
According to Samper, the group should refrain from partisan policies. “This is about finding similarities between sectors, regardless of their partisan origin, trying to find agreement on what this country needs; a social agenda that recognizes the tragedy of the problems like unemployment and healthcare,” he told Caracol Radio.
The groups will consist of a number of (former) politicians, journalists, analysts and people from the judicial sector.
Despite the high number of opposition politicians, Samper denies it is an anti-Uribe coalition. “There is room for everyone to propose an alternative project, not necessarily against Uribe (…) but in favor of social solutions that have been abandoned in the country,” he added.
