Colombia news - Buenaventura

The operator of the Pacific Buenavista Port is developing a two-year modernization plan worth $122 million.

The project includes the construction of Pier 14, bulk storage facility, dredging works, improvements in piers 7, 8 and 9, and the strengthening and modernization of information systems, according to a statement from the Regional Port Society of Buenavista (SPRB). In addition, two post-Panamax gantry cranes and six RTG cranes will be purchased.

The plan seeks to improve productivity and competitiveness of domestic goods in an international market, and expand the port to handle post-Panamax ships, according to the manager of the SPRB, Domingo Chimea.

In the next Andean Infrastructure Summit, a panel discussion called “Buenavista Container Terminal – TCBuen” will be held to deepen the perspective of the developer and financier of this project. The general manager of the institution, Gabriel Corrales, will speak firsthand about the advances, developments, and expected outcomes of this project during the panel discussion.

Corrales’ participation will take place during the session called Port Infrastructure and Maritime-Inland Transport, where he will be accompanied by other important actors in this sector such as Julian Palacios of Latinports and Mario Arbulu of ENAPU, among others.

Colombia Reports is media partner of the Andean Infrastructure Summit organized by Business News Americas and will report weekly on infrastructure in Colombia until the two-day event on March 23 and 24.
